Captain Faheem Nazir won the toss and elected to bat in the 2021 final at Embrach that started in the late afternoon sunshine. Almost single-handedly he steered his team to a 14 run victory, starring firstly with the bat with an innings of 121 and then with the ball with a five-wicket haul (3.2-0-42-5) before the match was abandoned by the umpires S.Krishnan & O.Koilraj due to failing light.
Nomads amassed an impressive 219 for the loss of just four wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Nomads captain Faheem Nazir contributed 121 of those, caught with two balls of the innings to go by Johnmary off the bowling of Malyar. He had been well supported by the Nomads the top order: Asvin Lakkaraju (38), Waqas Khawaja (15) and Azeem Nazir (27) who all scored double figures. Faheem left it to Misheen (8*) & Noman (2*) to see out the innings which ended on 219-4.
Olten’s task was clear, if not daunting. With the prospect of fading light, they need to stay above the Nomads over run rate of 10.95.
With the exception of Jaso Thirunakrasu (32) the Olten top and middle order failed to impress under the pressure of trying to keep ahead of the run-rate. The Nomad’s captain, Faheem Nazir, impressed again, this time taking a five wicket haul (3.2-0-42-5).
In the ninth over the on-field officials had seen enough (or not) and closed the game due to failing light. Zurich Nomads were declared winners by just 14 runs.
